Profilbeschreibung:
The Institute of Systems Biotechnology at Saarland University (iSBio), headed by Prof. Wittmann, bridges engineering and natural sciences at Saarland University and integrates cellular engineering with bioprocess engineering to create innovative biocatalysts and bioprocesses. His interdisciplinary and international team comprises 30 members with expert knowledge in metabolic engineering, systems biology, genome editing, bioinformatics, and biochemical engineering. The team has specialized on systems-level analysis of microbes, using transcriptomics, metabolomics, and 13C fluxomics and uses the obtained understanding as a guidance for rational genomic engineering of microbes. Through iterative cycles of design, build, test and learn, his team creates efficient cell factories for chemicals, materials, food and feed ingredients, and high-value therapeutics. It collaborates in various national and internation projects, funded by DFG, BMBF, EU, industrial partners and the state of Saarland.
