              Current research activities are 
- research into suitable sensor technologies for the measurement of quality-relevant properties of complex natural substance systems in the field of wheat dough processing,
- process optimization in the field of wheat dough processing using integration of image analysis tools in process and end product evaluation,
- softsensing systems for the evaluation of key parameters in yeast management and cell cultivation and
- mycelium-based materials from waste materials of the regional wood industry.
In general, biotechnology research and teaching facilities cover natural sciences, engineering skills and typical biotechnology fields from fermentation to downstream processing.
Competencies are provided in the fields of cell culture technology, bioreactor design, scale up & down, process optimization, modelling, model-based Design of Experiments, corresponding software tools, environmental biotechnology as well as photobiotechnology.
