Bavaria promotes establishment of bioeconomy production facilities

As part of the BayBioeconomy Scale-Up funding program, Bavaria is again supporting companies in setting up bioeconomy production facilities on an industrial scale.

In 2020, the bioeconomy strategy "Zukunft.Bioökonomie.Bayern" (Future.Bioeconomy.Bavaria) paved the way for a sustainable and ecologically responsible as well as socially just and thus sustainable way of life and economy in Bavaria. The use of renewable raw materials plays a central role in this. The "BayBioeconomy Scale-Up" funding program launched at the beginning of the year is designed to provide targeted support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Bavaria in setting up production facilities for the material use of renewable raw materials with a positive climate effect. Now the 2nd funding round has started.

Innovative products from renewable raw materials

"The current crisis clearly shows that we all need to replace fossil raw materials to a great extent and use as many renewable energy sources as possible," says Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger. "For this change towards more independence and climate neutrality, we need the bioeconomy. With our funding program, we want to encourage companies to set up new plants to produce innovative products from renewable raw materials."

Innovations must have positive climate effect

Funding is available, among other things, for production plants for biobased products such as plastics made from wood, chemicals made from agricultural by-products or products made from residual material streams from the food industry. Companies that want to realize such ideas in Bavaria and invest in production plants for the material use of renewable raw materials are eligible to apply. However, the processes must have already been tested on a larger scale and show a clear positive effect on the climate.
