As part of the "Política y Programa Nacional de Biotecnología agropecuaria y Forestal del Paraguay" strategy, the foundations are laid for more biotechnology in the agricultural and forestry sectors.

The strategy was signed by the government and entered into force in 2011. The modernisation of the two sectors aims to respond to global challenges such as climate change, the loss of biodiversity and a growing world population. Rural development, poverty control and increased food security are further goals that the country wants to achieve.
