Bioeconomy in Sri Lanka

Inspired by political developments in South and Southeast Asia, the Sri Lankan Cabinet of Ministers adopted its "National Biotechnology Policy" in 2010. The strategy comes from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC).The policy strategy aims to raise public awareness of biotechnology and to cement its position within society. Through greater use of biotechnology, progress is being made in various areas: agriculture, health, industry and the energy sector. A National Biotechnology Council was set up to promote the opening of biotechnology parks.
